ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Dec 2, 2008 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX News Network) -- MYR Group Inc. ("MYR") (Nasdaq:MYRG), a holding company of specialty contractors serving the electrical infrastructure market in the United States, announced that the Chattanooga, Tennessee district of its subsidiary The L.E. Myers Co., will today receive its recognition award for achieving STAR status in the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) for the Mobile Workforce Demonstration for Construction.

The L.E. Myers Co. achieved STAR status, the highest VPP recognition level awarded by OSHA for workplace safety and health, in September 2008 for work it performed for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) across multiple states. Regional OSHA officials will today participate in the presentation of the award to The L.E. Myers Co. in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

"I am proud to recognize MYR Group as the first Mobile Workforce VPP participant in Region IV," said Cindy Coe, Region IV Administrator at OSHA. "This further demonstrates how the employer, their employees and OSHA, working together, can improve safety and health in the workplace. By reducing injuries and illnesses, the company is more profitable and employees are more productive. It's a true win/win accomplishment!"

MYR's subsidiary Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. received VPP STAR Status in August 2008 for its Colorado Transmission and Distribution Division and Commercial and Industrial Division.

Management at MYR sets safety as a core value and feels that its safety programs are among the best in the industry. In August 2004, MYR, with other electrical transmission and distribution construction contractors and trade associations, formed a national OSHA Strategic Partnership (OSP). The training courses and best practices implemented through the OSP have contributed to improved safety and health throughout the company.
